Carle Place had been working all season to ensure a repeat of last year’s success and Marissa Nosovitch was integral in making that happen.

Nosovitch struck out 15 in Carle Place’s 6-2 win over Babylon in the Long Island Class B softball championship/Regional final at Farmingdale State on Wednesday night. This was Carle Place’s second consecutive Long Island championship.

“She sets the tone on the field,” Carle Place coach Alyssa Allen said. “She’s intense, fierce and always knows what she wants to do.”

Carle Place advances to the state Class B semifinal on June 13 at Greenlight Networks Grand Slam Park in Binghamton.

Nosovitch doubled in the bottom of the first inning to drive in Isabella DeGroot with the game’s first run. Isabella Roman singled to bring home Giulia Scibilia and give the Frogs a 2-0 lead.

“I just kept telling myself I could do it,” Roman said. “I wanted to do anything possible to put my team in a better position to win the game.”

Carle Place (19-5) scored two runs on two errors in the third and Kate Stellato singled to bring in Aryanna Perea.

Nosovitch exited the game and Carissa Arena singled to give Babylon its first hit in the fifth inning and scored on a passed ball. Isabella Mollico singled and scored on an error to cut Babylon’s deficit to 5-2. Nosovitch re-entered and picked up a strikeout to end the inning.

“Didn’t want to come out, but I had to. I have confidence in who comes in behind me,” Nosovitch said. “I know I have a strong defense behind me when I’m pitching, so I just came back in and got to work.”

Nosovitch singled with one out in the fifth and came home on Roman’s single to extend Carle Place’s lead to 6-2.

“We all badly wanted to win from the beginning,” Roman said. “We’ve been talking about winning and being able to go to Binghamton for so long. We were all hoping we could make it and we did.”

Angelina Durler led off the seventh inning with a single for Babylon (15-5). Nosovitch struck out the next batter, allowed Hazel Bivona to single and struck out the next two batters to end the game.

“The team dynamic we have is great, a lot of us have been playing together since kindergarten,” Nosovitch said. “We struggled in the beginning of the year, but we all put it together.”

Nosovitch continued her playoff dominance. The senior hasn’t allowed a run in five playoff starts.
