The sentencing of ex-Long Island Rep. George Santos' former campaign treasurer, who pleaded guilty to helping Santos file fraudulent campaign finance reports, has been postponed again.
Nancy Marks, a veteran of Republican political campaigns on Long Island, was to be sentenced Thursday, but "due to a conflict in the Court's calendar," it has been rescheduled to May 28, according to a court filing.
In response to a request for comment, Marks’ attorney Ray Perini said of U.S. District Judge Joanna Seybert: "Seybert's a very hardworking judge and I'm sure there's a date conflict, that's all."
Prosecutors have recommended that Marks receive 18 months in federal prison and pay more than $178,000 in restitution.
The defense also filed a sentencing memorandum, but that document is under seal.
Marks, of Shirley, originally was slated to be sentenced in February. She pleaded guilty last year to conspiracy to defraud the United States, admitting she conspired with Santos, prosecutors have said, to falsely inflate his campaign donations in order to meet a $250,000 threshold for his campaign to receive federal matching funds. Marks resigned as Santos’ campaign treasurer in January 2023.
Prosecutors have said Marks filed reports with both the Federal Election Commission and the Republican National Committee that included the names of false donors, including at least 10 of both her and Santos’ family members.
Marks has worked on more than 150 campaigns, including the 2022 failed gubernatorial campaign of Lee Zeldin, now the administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Santos is scheduled to report to prison on July 25. He was sentenced to 87 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to wire fraud and identity theft charges — admitting to filing the fraudulent reports with the Federal Election Commission, embezzling funds from his campaign donors, fraudulently obtaining unemployment benefits from New York State and lying on his congressional disclosure forms.
Santos’ attorney has said he will seek a pardon for his client, now a podcaster, from President Donald Trump.
