Adelphi men's and women's lacrosse win Northeast-10 conference titles
The Adelphi men’s and women’s lacrosse teams continued their reigns of dominance in the Northeast 10 conference on Saturday.
Michael Durnin’s goal two minutes, 25 seconds into overtime lifted the second-seeded Adelphi men to a 13-12 victory over top-seeded Saint Anselm in the NE-10 championship game at Grappone Stadium in Manchester, New Hampshire.
Julia Foppiano and Ashley Kolomechuk scored three goals apiece to power the second-seed Panthers to a 14-13 win over top-seeded Pace in the women’s NE-10 title game at Northwell Stadium in Pleasantville.
The Adelphi men (15-1) have won two straight conference championships and six overall. The Adelphi women (16-3) claimed its eighth straight conference crown.
Durnin, the sophomore attack from Massapequa Park, scored the winner — his sixth goal of the match — off a pass from Reis Bower.
Ryan Bauco and Noah Gibson added two goals apiece, and Vincent McDermott, Kyle Lewis and Braden Donnellan also scored. Lewis was named the tournament’s MVP and Dylan Renner made 11 saves.
Amanda Lee and Payson Hedge scored two goals apiece for the Adelphi women. Kolomechuk’s unassisted goal with 3:59 left gave the Panthers a 14-11 lead.
LIU 14, Stonehill 9: Julia Trainor and Ava Taylor each had three goals and one assist to lead third-seeded LIU over top-seeded Stonehill, 14-9, in the Northeast Conference women’s lacrosse title game at Skyhawk Field in North Easton, Mass. After Sofia D’Agostino tied the score at 7 for Stonehill (11-7) with 9:55 left in the third quarter, the Sharks (12-6) scored six unanswered goals to win their second straight NEC crown. — Denis P. Farmingdale State 14, USMMA 7: Kamryn Gill had three goals and one assist, Thomas Mai had two goals and three assists and Antonio Kaminskey went 13-for-23 on faceoffs to lift the top-seeded Farmingdale State men past second-seeded Merchant Marine on Friday night, earning its second consecutive Skyline Conference title.
Kaminskey was named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament. Dan Erler made 15 saves for the Rams (16-3), who earned an automatic bid into the 40-team NCAA Division III Men’s Lacrosse Championship. They will learn their opponent on Sunday in an online selection show on NCAA.com at 9 p.m.
